Byron Community Markets are a fanfare of colour, music, original arts & crafts, as well as a myriad of exotic foods & other wares. Local art and craft work fill the market site. Beautiful things made by people using unusual and natural materials sit side by side with colourful imports from Africa and Asia. Within the diversity of over 300 stalls there is something for everyone.
Alongside our regular monthly market we hold special Xmas and Summer Markets each year. This next ones are on Sunday 17 November, Sunday 15 December, 2013 & Sunday 19 January 2014
Open from 8 - 3pm preference is given to local stallholders who make or grow their produce allowing the market to play a valuable role as a business incubator. Throughout the market site over 70% of stalls are filled with the 100% locally made creative delights.
Each month two local charities are invited to be Charity of the Day to collect donations at the entrances to the market. This is a major fundraising boost for many local organisations.
This year we are focussing on a no landfill campaign. A study of waste products and sustainablity options is being researched to put initiatives in place to ensure waste minimisation and maximum recycling and composting.
The Byron Community Centre has been working to improve/beautify the Butler Street Reserve where both the Byron Market and Byron Farmers Market are held. June 2010 began the implementation phase by planting of 40 native trees on the market ground. September 2012 will see more trees, underplantings and seating added to the site.
